Strong turnout for tender on African iron-ore rail line – Sundance, By Reuters, Posted on MiningWeekly.com

PERTH – In a sign appetite for African resources could be turning, an international tender to build a 500 km rail line across Cameroon to haul iron-ore will close next month, with the winner known early in 2014, said Sundance Resources. The line leading to the Atlantic would provide the only means to export millions of tonnes of ore Sundance and other companies are hoping to mine in West Africa. Africa’s iron ore explorers are largely out of favour with Western investors. As a result, prospectors like Sundance, Bellzone and West African Minerals have seen their shares fall about 70 percent this year. [Read More…]  

Sable Mining Moves Closer To Key Infrastructure Deal In Liberia, By Tom McIvor, Posted on LSE

LONDON (Alliance News) – Sable Mining Africa Limited Tuesday said its subsidiary West Africa Exploration S.A. has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Government of Liberia. The AIM-listed iron-ore exploration mining company said the deal would enable the parties to conduct discussions and negotiations over a binding infrastructure development agreement for the purposes of exporting iron ore products from the Nimba project in the Republic of Guinea. The company said the deal would relate to the use and operation of both rail and port infrastructure by WAE and the deal should progress the Nimba Project towards commencement of operations in 2015. Pretoria — Police crime intelligence gathered information that protesting Marikana mineworkers had performed muti rituals and believed they were invincible before the August 16 shootings last year. Brigadier Adriaan Calitz told the Farlam Commission of Inquiry in Centurion on Tuesday that even though the strikers believed they were invincible police had to intervene to curb the violent strike. “We had received intelligence that there was this story around the muti and these people believed that the police would not be able to do anything to them.
